Lovely traditional hotel with friendly and attentive staff. Good food. Unsurprisingly convenient for the station.

Popped in for a meal and really please to find their steak pie was a proper pie and not a ceramic dish with a pasty topping that you get elsewhere. Well done

The hotel is a little tired.. We were given a room on arrive, a attic room it seems, very small old looking, but when entering it smelt of stale cigarette smoke.. Which wasn't very pleasant, but after we mentioning to the lady at reception she very quickly got us a new pleasanter room.
Breakfast was nice, but service a little slow.. One member of staff preferring to chat than to service and fill up juices, milk ect.
Over all our stay was nice, but a few minor things are letting this hotel down.

Excellent decor. Sandwich good service very slow. Two sandwiches took 35 minutes and they weren't busy.

Lovely period hotel. Very comfortable rooms and the food is delicious. Staff are very polite and helpful. Thoroughly recommend staying here as it has a good central location with the town centre within walking distance.

This is an exceptional former Railway Hotel that is extremely well run by its delightful owner. Bar and Bistro were looked after by well trained attentive staff. Food was very good. If in, or passing Dumfries don't miss this 'destination venue' Hotel, just wonderful! Don't forget to look at the Railway Station as well...a gem!

I am staying overnight in The Station Hotel in Dumfries tonight.
I would recommend this hotel.
The rooms are nice and clean.
The en-suite bathroom is a good size and good quality.
It has a nice restaurant and bar as well.
Residents can park in front of the hotel for free.
The hotel is right opposite Dumfries railway station.
It is a short walk from the hotel into the centre of Dumfries where there are pubs, bars and restaurants to visit.
I first stayed at The Station Hotel in 2005 and use it every time I visit Dumfries.
I had a walk today on Kirkcudbright Defence Training Estate today which is a short drive from Dumfries which I would recommend.
I would recommend entering the Kirkcudbright Defence Training Estate from the Dundrennan end as there is a nice wooded walk which you can enter from the Dundrennan end of the Kirkcudbright Defence Training Estate.
I also visited the beach at Dundrennan which recently was used for a large scale military exercise.
Before you do the walk check there is no live firing taking place.
Go on-line and check first.
There is also an MOD map that you can print off which shows you the access points to the Kirkcudbright Defence Training Estate and the routes you can walk.

7

Clean and tidy room, perfect for our overnight stay. Decor is predictably dated and tired. Staff helpful and friendly. The place has clearly seen better days, but it’s fine for a short stay or business trip. Perfect for rail travellers!

7

Very impressive exterior... Tired interior. Its an amazing building in a great location with lots of interesting features... But as with many hotels a lack of investment has led to it looking sad. Hopefully the bar area is next to be improved as there's bags of potential for a good bar so close to the station.
Service and the coffee were good.

Arrived far too early but every effort was made to get me in my room at the earliest opportunity. Sitting close to reception, it became obvious that the receptionist was cheerful, helpful, polite and very professional. A relaxing stay. Food almost excellent - but frozen chips - really!

Handy location, we had the window open all night and it was quiet. Rooms are nicely decorated, the rest is slightly dated. Staff were friendly. Food wasn't fantastic, had bones in my fish and breakfast was a quite dry despite not being a buffet.

Comfortable room, great location if traveling by train. Stayed at this hotel 20+ years ago and it has been tastefully renovated. Our room was large enough for a "zipper" set of twins and a small chair with 2 tables.

Stayed at the hotel for a weekend break 4th/6th Nov. Ample car parking and a great location for exploring the area. Receptionist extremely friendly and efficient. Hotel is a traditional 'station hotel' but there is a beautiful modern extension housing a bistro opening onto a beer garden. Our room was a good size and clearly recently renovated with flat screen TV, tea/coffee, ironing board/iron, hairdryer etc. but the bed advertised online as king-size was actually super-king and very comfortable with a choice of soft/firmer pillows. Excellent breakfast choice with very friendly efficient staff. We will definitely return to this hotel.

7

Situated opposite the railway station the hotel provides free roadside parking. The hotel is accessed by a flight of stone steps and occupies a large, old building, as such the rooms are of a variety of size, each with a well maintained en suite shower room. The hotel was noticeably very quiet this being helped by internal, sliding windows inaddition to double glazing. Meals were of good quality though limited portion size. Staff were friendly and generally helpful though a colleague's room was missing its TV remote and this was not resolved within our 2-day stay!

7

Nice hotel for a best western. Spacious room bit dated and shabby as is the best western way but super comfortable and even got home made shortbread on arrival. Shame breakfast is in the dingy basement and not the light and airy saloon above it felt a bit 80's but can't fault the food it was lovely. Tattie scones and haggis is a must when you visit Scotland and they got them bang on.
Not many parking spaces when I aarivetd and the restaraunt was shut by 9pm SO had to go into town which was dire hence loss of 1 star.

We stayed in this hotel during an 11 week vacation to UK Ireland and Europe, in Sept/October 2008 We found the staff to be most obliging, the rooms extremely clean and well furnished, the restaurant friendly with great food, and the hotel is in a great location. Although an older establishment it has been carefully maintained and we would not hesitate to stay there again in the future or recommend it to other travellers. Thankyou Best Western Station Hotel, from two Kiwis in their sixties.
