Cool rooftop bar with indoor and outdoor seating.

Crowd is older and more professional. Drinks are nice, but expect to pay typical NYC nice roof top prices. Great view of the Empire State Building. My only concern, it gets crowded and not too much room to stand. Maybe could use another bar?

UPDATE - Second time going here in a week and so I wanted to update my review. They do not need another bar because they keep it more intimate. Love the place, definitely check them out.

Great stay, too bad New York took most of our time sightseeing. The location is ideal, a walk to all the major sites NY has to offer. It was a delight coming back to our clean, comfortable and spacious room anytime. Many little enjoyable details in the room. The bed mattress was extremely comfortable, we did not have to take time to adjust our sleep. It was great to come back from a long city walk to nice Jazz tunes in your rearranged room. I loved the Bathroom tile work.
Management training was evident in the young spirited and energetic staff. very knowledgeable and always offering help. Masters in communication, we received text messages and information while touring the city to ensure we are having a great time.
Bill always made sure we knew where we are going and how to get there. Staff had all great recommendations on where to eat. Entertainment at the hotel rooftop bar and the Jazz lounge in the lobby are a definite option for a great time, you don't have to leave the hotel.
We highly recommend this gem if you are looking to enhance your NY city experience. Or if you want to just get spoiled and enjoy sometime for yourself.

The service here is fabulous! Everyone is so polite, friendly, helpful, and very pleasant. The rooms are tidy, large, comfortable, and stylish. The food was as hip as it was delicious. I definitely recommend the Refinery the next time you’re in the city! You won’t regret it and you’ll leave knowing that you were taken care of.

Had stayed there before a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much we went back. Rooms are well furnished, spacious and cleaned well. Very little if any noise from traffic outside. It is well placed for all the attractions which in the main are well within walking distance unless you have mobility issues. If this is the case there is usually a yellow cab outside, or the Door staff will get you one quickly. Staff in general are very polite and very helpful....

I would’ve given this place a better rating if it wasn’t for the wait. There’s a half a block line outside, luckily we didn’t have to wait long as I had a friend already standing in line. It’s much easier if you go in a small group as there isn’t much seating and if you do get seating there’s an hour wait. I went during happy hour with a friend and we got a drink at the bar and we stood there until they notified us about our table. Cocktails are decent. The bar area is packed and the tables have about an hour and half limit. It’s a nice bar with a decent view, the wait was too long. It was also way too crowded and the crowd was a little on the pretentious side. They seemed to be mostly from the people working around the area. If you have nothing better to do then go, but if you want some space to enjoy your drink, you’re better off going elsewhere. Even on a work night, it’s crowded especially during warmer months. Expect a long wait. I’d like to come back during less busier times to enjoy a drink with a view.

Visited the rooftop bar. Waited quite a while for a table since it was very popular during happy hour on a Thursday. Once we were seated it was great. Food was delicious. Had the tuna tartare, friend calamari and a flat bread, all excellent. The house cocktail the Rooftop Spritzer was also very good.

Super hotel, staff very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Love the vibe, very jazz orientated and cool. Free drink in the evening then relax in the bar and listen to the band play some beautiful jazz. Nice and central too, really nice area. Will definitely visit again. Special mention for Amanda she made our stay really special.

I have been to Refinery a number of times. Usually there is a wait to get in. Also, it's difficult to find a place to sit.

The cocktails are really nice. Also the food. Would recommend their Guacamole and Truffle Fries.

I stayed at the Refinery Hotel 6/2/18, this is my fourth time staying at this hotel. Originally I brought my family (booking several rooms) just weeks after the hotel opened and before their restaurants and rooftop were open. Such great experiences those times and some of the best treatment from the staff, valet and management.

The first time I was met with Le Labo toiletries, a large and very well-maintained room and some of the most exceptional service I have experienced in NYC. On top of that, I paid much less than my recent visit.

This time I was very disappointed. The hotel has lost the crisp feeling it had and my room was dirty, worn and noisy. The toiletries are cheap, the room has dirt and grime and even shards of someones toilet paper next to the bed. The bed blanket looks worn and dirty, the carpet was rolling at the edges and it was one of the noisiest rooms I have been in. Starting at 7:50am housekeeping started tapping on all of the doors in the area making one after another making so much noise I could not sleep.

I shared my feelings with the management of the hotel via their text app and their response was to offer a 10% discount for another stay and said they will talk to housekeeping/maintenance. Pretty abysmal.

The truth is that I paid $415.45 for one night of lackluster accommodations. Staff didn't bother to address me at any point other than check-in and didn't ask how my stay was upon check-out. No offer to help with my luggage as I left, no bottle of water, etc. I will go back to the dozens of other options in the same cost category for NYC rather next time. A real disappointment given where this hotel started only a few years ago.

It's a rooftop venue, with pretty decent views. It's very modern, yet sort of laid back at the same time. Although they do have a dress code, so one would have to look their best. The food is pretty good, they offer a tapas menu with a decent selection and the list of flatbreads that are very good. It does get packed so the only recommendation I would have is to reserve a table in advance, you may find yourself waiting 45 minutes minimum if you don't.

Have been to the hotel a few times and have never been disappointed. Well appointed rooms, comfortable beds, modern bathrooms, great service. Staff know your name and welcome you back personally. The rooftop bar is a great spot to have a night cap. I would recommend not staying on the top floor, as right above there is the bar which has a DJ on the weekends. If you can get a corner room, you'll have a great view of 38th and the cross street. Love the amenities in the room as well. Lovely scents.

The rooms are well clean and modern. They have everything you'd expect from hair dryers to irons to safes. They are comfortable and cute. The room service food is ok for a meal and better then a lot of other room service I've had. Plus is comes packed like a lunch, disposal and easy to manage unlikely the big clunky trays that take up the entire desk most hotels give you. But the best part of this hotel has to be the roof top bar. As a hotel guest you get to skip what can be a crazy long line, particularly when it's nice out. The cocktails are good and the vibe is cool only topped off by a great view!!

Perfect choice to splurge on a night in the city for our 10th wedding anniversary! The room was beautiful, the service was friendly and prompt, and we even had complimentary "Happy Anniversary" cupcakes and wine waiting for us in our room! The rooftop bar was fun too, if unsurprisingly crowded. The location is perfect, right between the Theater District and Grand Central, so it was easy to get around on foot. Will absolutely return if circumstances permit!

I have to say I was really surprised. I booked a room last minute for my birthday. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Beautiful roof top and overall hotel decor. The open windows and trendy decor was a plus. I had one of the bigger rooms was super surprised that the bathrooms were as big as o saw. Very cool place we went for drinks after work. Cool open air vibe. The bartenders were very attentive and drinks were perfect. We didn't have any food but from what I saw looked awesome. The have couches you can reserve or tables near the bar with service.

Very elegant, stylish hotel. Ambience was very warm and inviting. Rooms have a loft feel to them. Atelier room had high ceilings and tall windows that let's in a lot of natural light. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.

I live in NY, and work in the area. I was looking for a hotel in the area (close to Broadway.) I planned a Sat-Sun gateway for my husband and I for his birthday. I looked at many hotels and Refinery stood out the most due to amenities and location. Instead of using a booking site, I booked directly with Refinery trough their website. It was $15 cheaper than any 3rd party booking site and I received 3 special offers with their partners (20% off ParkWhiz, 15% off airline travel, and 17% off H&M purchase....there were others to choose from but these were the most relevant to me.

I added to the notes that it was my husband birthday. When we checked in, we were upgraded to a suite without asking. Got complimentary water bottles and 2 glasses of wine. Front Desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They also happily accommodated our request for a late check-out.

The room was very trendy and modern. And it’s extremely awesome that the hotel honors the buildings history as a hat factory. I loved the decor of the hotel. There was a live band and singer in the lobby lounge/bar in the evening.

We also received complimentary bottle of red wine and macaroons inside of a hat container. It came with a personalized and handwritten birthday card from the staff. Very cute and thoughtful.

The next morning the front desk check in on us and offered to book us brunch reservations at their lobby restaurant, Parker & Quinn. Checkout was effortless and super friendly as well.

The hotel also has a beautiful rooftop with great views of the Empire State Building. Great drinks and nice atmosphere. the crowd is young professionals. Very pleasant.

Only minus, the bed was extremely uncomfortable, for someone who likes a firm or plush/firm mattresses. If you like them extra plush, this is the bed for you.

Overall, Refinery Hotel made or weekend extremely enjoyable and pleasant. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to stay in the Theater district but out of the crazy congested Times Square crowd.

Terrific location for Broadway shows, Rock Center, etc. Beautifully decorated holiday windows at Lord and Taylor were just down the block. Blue Bottle Coffee is nearby and some folks enjoy the hotel restaurant, Parker and Quinn for drinks or dinner.

Welcoming, courteous front desk staff greeted us with a smile and sincerely offered assistance with any further needs. When an unusual need arose, Katja quickly solved the problem.

Another reviewer's describing the ambiance as industrial chic is spot on, frankly. Live jazz music wafts through the air as you walk down an intentionally dimly lit hall to the front desk and elevators.

One night we saw a fairly long queue out front waiting for entry to the rooftop bar, yet the doorman recognized us, welcomed us back and opened the door for us with a smile.

Our room felt remarkably spacious for NYC and the high ceilings no doubt contributed to that feeling.

We would definitely stay here again.

Although I did not have time to try the rooms or food, craft cocktails and wine list were definitely special. Other than my good company, the decoration and lighting of the rooftop really enhanced the experience. The music selection was on point and staff very friendly.
The reason for the lack of that extra star is the lack of presence and manners of greeters at the front desk of the hotel, who didn’t seem to want to be there.

Incredible, stylish, beautiful and peaceful! We stayed here for 5 nights just before Christmas and it was the perfect place to stay and so on trend! It’s in a great location and easy to get to all the major parts of the city. The service from the doorman, right to the lovely cleaners, was fantastic- everyone was friendly and so kind. Highly recommend and totally coming back 😊❤️

My company holiday party was at the refinery rooftop. The food was good, and the service even better! Nice view of the Empire State Building with both indoor and outdoor access. I'd definitely go back.

This was the best hotel I have stayed at in a long time. The executive suite was spacious. The staff was very friendly. The rooftop bar had great drinks and the location is perfect for. Broadway shows. I would highly recommend it.

Th hotel was very unique. Although like many new York hotels the rooms were small, high ceilings and layout maximized space and made it feel larger. The staff were great and the restaurant was a great stop for breakfast.

The hotel was beautiful and clean. The staff was very nice and friendly. We walked in and were greeted with a glass of wine for their happy hour. The room itself was spacious and very comfortable. The bed was so comfortable also! We had a great stay and I would love to come back

Great location. A bit too yuppified for my taste. I suppose that is typical for midtown Manhattan, though. Housekeeping staff was fantastic. The doormen were awesome.

Lovely place (at least the lobby and bar/lounge were). Nicely decorated and inviting. The service in the lounge was terrific, as was the food. They lost one star, in my book, for the lack of properly replenished paper towels in the restrooms. Plus, the restrooms were a bit poorly maintained for a hotel of this caliber.

A small boutique luxury hotel with a great restaurant and bar. Luxurious, comfortable and stylish. The room had a high ceiling which created a real sense of space. The facilities were everything that you would expect from a well run hotel.

We booked for thanksgiving weekend, Wednesday through Sunday. It's been great. Very attentive nice staff. Wine offered when checked in. Had Lamar help with our luggage, very friendly. The concierge was knowledgeable in the area and explaining everything to it's. It's our first time here

We went to the refinery hotel to grab drinks at the rooftop bar. It was very modern and the restaurant/bar was an open space area with an open ceiling. Perfect for summer nights. Cocktail drinks are a tad expensive but compared to other hotel bars in Manhattan, they are comparable. Service was good and the cocktails were very good as well. They have an outdoor patio in the heart of midtown Manhattan offering incredible views. Well worth the visit.

Loved this place! We stayed here for the Halloween/marathon weekend this year.

Staff was incredibly helpful for the most part. Door men were great to catch cabs at the corner and offer recommendations. Lindsey at the lobby bar was an absolute doll and offered a list of area spots that were on point.

The lobby and rooms are beautiful as is the view of the Empire State Building from the rooftop bar.

Points off for lack of ice availability. Machines are located on odd floors, not every floor as we were told, and were out of ice. Fortunately, staff delivered to our room promptly.

The warning about tipping desk chairs may sound exaggerated, but two of us did in fact tip the chair. Not a huge safety concern, but get up with caution.

Can't wait to stay here again!!

One of my favorite hotels! The best service I've ever had at a hotel. The staff was fantastic. The rooms are spotless, detail oriented, and the decor is top notch! The street and hallway were a little loud, request a higher level. The rooftop lounge was very unique and cozy at night with a fun cocktail list. And lunch on the roof was delicious! Can't wait to stay again.

Great location for Midtown. Rooms are modern, although vary regarding amenities such as a fridge. Dark rooms means cleaning staff doesn't have to be as thorough, but my wife and I noticed on multiple occasions the bathroom area wasn't clean to our standards. Staff overall is friendly and helpful.

Perfet position in the center of NYC, 5 minutes walk to Times Square.
Metro station is closer like shops, super market and Briant Park, lovely place where is a corner with public book and journal.
The only observation is about the quality of room cleaning service, the are not careful at the level of 5 stars hotel.
Bed king sides is confortable and the pillows are soft.
The breakfast is good and is not a buffet service.
Kettle isn't in the room but is available.

Attended the rooftop bar. Great views of the city, especially the Empire State. Drink prices are what you'd expect of a rooftop bar. Will definitely come again.

Went to the Rooftop. Very nice space. Without a reservation we (2) had to wait some 30 minutes. This was Labor Day Monday at like 7. Just waited at the bar. Nice small eats. Enough to make a meal out of but definitely made for more hearty snacking. But still very good.

The view from the rooftop bar was beautiful. It has an industrial loft-like feel. I was there for a wedding and the servers and hostesses were friendly. The food was delicious. Don't go expecting great cocktails.....They were subpar and the bartender not friendly,... Though they have a nice beer selection.

I cannot say enough how amazing this place is. From start to finish - even before you get in the door, it's understated, boutique chic, and I was impressed by their professionalism and commitment to detail. It has a small gym, with sweat towels, and a water fountain. It's not massive, but it does the trick on holiday, and their rooftop terrace has great views of the Empire State building. It's not a cheap place, but the price of luxury speaks for itself. it's utterly beautiful. Had a great stay there

Visited Parker and Quinn for lunch and it was packed. The host suggested we eat at the jazz lounge in the Refinery Hotel. Comfortable seating and the same menu as the restaurant. Wonderful lunch and good service from the lounge.

Booked a room for one night using the Hotel Tonight app. $232 after tax.

When I checked in, I specifically asked the front desk staff with a funny mustache for a quiet room away from the noise, elevator & on a high floor.

Pros:
• Location was great, a couple short blocks from the Bryant Park. Easy access to subways & trains.
• My room, 1014, was tastefully appointed. Hardwood floor, which added a lot of character and charm. Next to the wine glasses, there’s a complimentary wine opener. Most of the windows are West-facing toward the 6th Ave, so lots of sun in the afternoon.
• Bathroom was large and bright. It came with a nice sewing kit, ear plugs (there's more about noise later), among other things. There’s plenty of counter space to put your toiletry.
• Bed was large and comfy.
• There’s a bar in the lobby, which opens at 4 pm and has an interesting cocktail list. (Psst: stay away from the seared tuna unless you like yours super salty and spicy) There’s also a rooftop bar which is THE happening place from Thur to Sat.
• Coffee service in the lobby in the morning.
• Central AC, instead of a window unit.
• There’s wine reception from 5ish? To 7pm at the front desk.

Cons:
• Insulation of this hotel wasn’t great. Even on the 10th floor, there’s still a lot of street noise and from my next door neighbors. E.g. I can tell room 1015 had 2 guys vs 1013 had 2 girls who liked to bang drawers, closets and doors. There’s a connecting door between 1014 & 1015 which allowed the voices through. I'd stayed at another hotel on East 39th earlier this week and didn’t have any noise issue.
• After 9 pm, the Free wifi slowed to a crawl.
• 2 staffers told me coffee service starts at 6; one told me @ 6:30. Which is which?
• The window in the bathroom didn’t close completely. So I got an earful of sirens throughout the night. How did I sign up for that?
• While I understand that there’s a need for heavy comforter to offset the strong AC, which I set at 73 F. I’m a roller when I sleep, so it was way too heavy to roll around with.

In conclusion, while the hotel has nice amenities, if you’re a light sleeper like me, you may want to consider other options. Additionally, given the price point, it shouldn't even be an issue to begin with.

Awesome location. Nice rooftop with a great view of the Empire State Building. The only bad part was having an unhappy bartender serving us. No smiles, expressing annoyance at having to work. Received a check with no pen to sign for the bill. Had to wait another 10 min to get her attention.

I've been eyeing this place for a month or so. Finally, hubby & I got the chance to visit. We were seated very quickly. We were giving water within seconds. Our order was taken and served within 10 mins tops. We loved the view. Only issue was the heat...I think they should have a fan or more umbrellas to keep people cool. We sat outside with sweat pouring down our faces.

Could not believe how quiet the whole hotel is! We got to our room on the 4th floor and so quiet! Staff was incredibly helpful, even sent us some sweet surprises as we were celebrating our engagement. They really go above and beyond! Hope was our main contact and she was fantastic! Love the atmosphere of the hotel and the rooftop bar has views of the Empire State Building! Located right in midtown - walk to all the major attractions and close to the many subway stations! Highly recommend!

Probably one of the best Small Luxury Hotels that I have stayed at. The rooftop bar was a bit overwhelming for me, but as another option they have some great live jazz every night in the lobby. The staff were nice, and were always willing to help. The decor... Don't even get me started. It was fabulous. It really used dark wood well to create a intimate feeling. The location, in the middle of the garment district was fabulous, and it was easy to walk to wherever you wanted to go. I hope that you can stay here and experience it for yourself.

We stayed here and from the moment we stepped out of our car, every employee was so nice and helpful. Rooms were very neat, little small, but we were never in the room. Very secure you need your room card to get to your room in the elevator. Rooftop bar was very classy and not over crowded. Will go back and I highly recommend this hotel

Great location for sight seeing in New York. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite by the very kind hotel staff who were aware we were here for our honeymoon. We were also given some wine, cupcakes and a personalised card which was a nice touch and very much appreciated. Room was large and spotless with a view of the Empire State Building. Towels and toiletries replaced often and a turn down service each evening. The air con was very efficient which was extremely welcome during the hot weather we experienced. Staff all extremely friendly and helpful, free wine and nibbled on some evenings.

The overall experience was positive. Clean, friendly staff and comfortable beds. Very cool decor and nice area. When I checked out I was told I had one purchase from the minibar in my room. I told them no I didn't. If there was something missing the cleaning lady took it. She removed the charge and I signed my check out slip. Three days later the charges appear on my credit card. I emailed the manager about the issue and never received a response back. Beware of the overpriced minibar scam.

My stay has been a comfortable one so far. Check-in was a breeze and the service exceptional. The rooftop lounge makes this a welcome destination and experience. I was surprised to find an above average fitness room in this small luxury hotel. I was concerned that I would have to pause my fitness regimen, but that was not the case. The rooms are clearly designed and furnished individually to give a unique experience for each guest. I am fortunate for having stayed in this Midtown hotel near many popular destinations.

Great location and loved the ambiance. Tater tots and the dipping sauces deserve a special mention! Drinks were on the expensive end. What I don't understand is why can't they wash their glasses thoroughly. We got two sets of glasses (for water) and both were clearly used by someone else and had semi-dried food particles on the rim. Funny how a small issue leaves such a profound effect on one's opinion

Very nice, clean and friendly staff. I stayed one night and was able to do my site seeing. Hotel is close to most of the actions. They have very exclusive club on the top floor. Highly recommended.

I went to the rooftop bar. I went on the first good weather day of the year and it was PACKED. We had to wait in line on the street before we could go up. The waiting time varied from 5-20 minutes for members of my group.

Showed up with no reservations needing a room. From the moment the doorman took our bags we felt like we were your special guests.Everyone was so nice.Mike was a great bartender and the view was great. We loved this place .Can not wait to come back to see everyone.

the rooftop bar was absolutely fabulous. I want to have my next party there!! Very NYC wiht view of empire state building....i was alone staying overnight due to a snowstorm and the staff was friendly and nice. Gorgeous linens and luxurious rooms. Top rate hotel indeed!!

Picking a hotel for a short break holiday is always a bit scary - will it be ok? Will it satisfy all my needs? I can definitely say that from the first moments when we were greeted by Susan we felt at home - at that is a key for me - feeling comfortable when trying to relax from the everyday rush for a few days. Yes, the hotel is small, yes it is relatively simple, but that's its charm and advantage. It's super quaint for NYC being right in the center of the action, just steps from Times Square and Broadway. Staff is excellent, helpful and friendly, providing this personal touch and experience that large, chain hotels can't. This is not a place for people who expect five star rooms with 'golden faucets', but it's a definite must for everyone who wants a five star service and escape from the crowds after all day of crowds in the city. Very, very well done Susan and entire staff!

Went here for an event on the rooftop. It was very warm and the atmosphere was great. The terrace is beautiful and there are amazing views of the Empire State Building. The food was great and the servers were very nice. Would definitely recommend as a place to have a function!

Recent first time stay for business due to location. Lovely property. Boutique, hip vibe. Nice, engaging roof top restaurant and bar. No need to go out. Comfortable lobby. Highly attentive and friendly staff. Manager on duty when I checked in was very professional and accommodating. Will most definitely stay again.

Upscale New York hotel. Great location and a great price. Rooms are trendy and staff are polite. There is a bar, restaurant and a rooftop bar that serves great breakfast. For NYC rooms are decent size and beds comfy.

Grabbed birthday drinks here with some friends recently. The venue is a really nice location with a great view of the Empire State Building. I ordered a "Refined Vesper," a variation of the classic James Bond martini. Great drink, but not for everyone. The Vesper never was. Everything is on the pricey side, but they're no slouch with their liquor, so I can't complain

Having meticulously researched beforehand I was excited for our stay at The Refinery. Everything about the place sounded right up my alley. Once we stepped foot inside our room all expectations went out the window. It looked nothing like the pictures on the website (or any travel site really). What we got was the tiniest and most bizarrely designed room I've ever stepped foot in. Case in point the bathroom door was literally a sliding glass door. Anyone on the other side could tell what was going on in there. Very intimate indeed.

The one saving grace this place has was the staff. During our stay they were very attentive and helpful.

Excellent location, huge wonderfully appointed suites with friendly staff attending to your needs. We had a delicious meal at the restaurant on the main floor attached to the hotel and then up to the rooftop for a night cap. The views at the top are worth muscling through the crowds on a weekend. It is open up to the public as well as hotel guests which makes weekends a little bit crazy.
I would definitely recommend staying here!
